How Feedback can build Trust and Confidence, by Forbes

“Human-to-human” level connection should be the starting point of the feedback process

  • ·   Publicly congratulate employees that are doing a good job

  • ·   When giving negative feedback, offer advice on how to improve and ask if the feedback is helpful and if they have any questions

I agree with the article in that creating a safe and healthy environment amongst employees will improve how they receive feedback.  Like the article stated, employees don’t have to be best friends or take on the world together, but to have positive human-to-human interactions will allow them to not take feedback personally but rather take it constructively.  From my own personal experience, when I was receiving feedback on my first job, my manager told me that I was doing an amazing job while we were open. I was pleasant with customers, and I made their orders very fast. However, my performance in closing the store was terrible.  He outlined everything I was doing wrong and told me how to improve. If I did not have that human-to-human connection mentioned by Chandler, I would not have taken that feedback in a positive manner.
