The Feedback your employees really want, by Washington Post
Employees crave constructive criticism and prefer negative feedback or positive feedback
-
Give feedback as soon as possible
-
Negative feedback should always be given in private
-
Never use feedback to put an employee down
I agree with the article in that the time and place of feedback should be appropriate. Don’t tell an employee that they did a bad job in front of their peers. It’s a bad look and because of how the message was delivered nothing productive will come of it. I was surprised that most employees prefer negative feedback over positive feedback. I’m always looking for ways that I can improve, but from my experience, I feel like a lot of people fear feedback.
